MVSA Conservation Initiative

Consistent with the club’s mission statement, the MV Surfcasters are very engaged in conservation efforts, both on a local and regional/national level.  Members of the club serve as board members on multiple Island based conversation organizations including the Vineyard Conservation Society, Sheriff’s Meadow Foundation, and Friends of Sengekontacket.  Many of our members actively support the Trustees of Reservation on the island financially, as well as thru donating our time to activities like beach cleanup.  Several members of the club are employed by the Trustees.  Club members serve island town conservation efforts thru memberships on town dredge committees, shellfish committees, and others.  Club members were key to the new Oak Bluffs fishing pier planning effort.  Club members are also active in national conservation efforts including Stripers Unlimited and actively lobby for regulation changes that will improve baitfish and game fish stocks.
